After a winter storm damaged this oak, the crown had to be removed, leaving a 26-foot trunk. Chris asked me to create a sculpture for the top, and chose a red kite with its wings spread as if it's about to take flight. I carved the bird as a separate piece so it could be removed if needed, and installed it with steel fixings. Getting it up there was almost as challenging as the carving.
